Lazarescu-poza-1All through the post-communist era he was actively involved in the public sphere as a journalist/analyst (with regular contributions in publications such as “Monitorul” (The Monitor), “Ziarul de Iași” (Iași Newspaper), the “22” magazine etc., he appeared in radio and television programmes at national or local posts), in editorial management (he coordinated/is coordinating the editorial department of media institutions such as “Monitorul” daily newspaper network – which had 19 local newspapers in 2000, the radio network “Mix FM“, the magazine “22“, “Ziarul de Iaşi“), as well as in the academic area (he is Head of Department of Journalism and Communication Sciences at “Al.I.Cuza” University of Iaşi). He was President – General Manager of TVR (The Romanian Television Broadcast Company) (2010-2012), Executive Manager of the same institution between 1999 and 2000 and was part of the B of D of SRTV between 2002 and 2005. Mention should be made of the correspondence for BBC Radio programmes in Romanian and for Radio Europa Liberă (Free Europe Radio), but also for the BBC World Service.

He was a consultant for the World Bank as part of the Information Society development programme, and from 2003 to 2010 he was a consultant for the Media and Communication strategy of the Delegation/Representation of the European Commission in Bucharest, coordinated by the British company Chelgate Ltd. He was also an expert/consultant for Freedom House, for the “Nations in Transit” project and for the Goethe Institute (in Bucharest, Iasi and Chisinau). At the same time, he has been involved in civil society projects mostly within organizations in which he was a member or a member of the Board (GDS, Transparency International, FDSC, Soros Foundation Media Board, Romania Development Gateway, Freedom House etc.)

His main topics of interest concern the impact of new technologies on the media (in the field of editorial/business models), but also the impact thereof in the political space and in the society in general, the international affairs and the geopolitical developments.
